Let’s talk - I’d love to hear about your project!
If you’re interested in working together, the best way to see if it will be a good fit is by booking a complimentary 30 minute video call. You can get in touch by sending me a brief email. Some helpful things to include are:
- What you’re currently working on
- What type of support you’re looking for
- Your timeline, and any relevant deadlines
I bill for projects at an hourly rate of $110 CAD and can offer per project customized quotes. For a full list of my prices and services, including packages, please contact me.
I also offer special rates for non-profit arts organizations.
Some helpful things to know:
- It’s never too early to reach out - I generally book up to one-month in advance.
- You don’t need to have a draft - or anything - prepared for our first conversation.
- Meeting to discuss your project doesn’t mean any pressure to move forward, and I won't give you a hard sell.
- It’s okay if you’re not sure what type of support you could use - that’s what we’ll talk about!
My Approach
The editorial work I do is generally concerned with higher-level issues such as structure, tone, strategy, and voice, than with the work of proofreading (looking for spelling or grammar mistakes), though I can help with those, too.
I work collaboratively with artists and scholars to help them strengthen and develop their own writing skills. In other words, I’m invested in teaching you how to improve your own writing, rather than do it for you.
Accessibility
I have extensive experience working with artists who identify as members of the Disability and/or Mad arts communities. My trauma-informed approach is based upon a deep commitment to anti-oppression and disability justice, and is informed by over 10 years experience working with disability-arts nonprofits, and my own lived experience.
If you are an artist who is Deaf or has a disability, and you are applying for opportunities or funding through the Canadian public arts funding structures, there is money available for application support that can be applied towards my fee. Get in touch if you would like to learn more!
Statement on AI
As someone who values the creativity of human artists, thinkers, and writers I do not use AI for any of my tasks - writing, organizational, or editorial. I will never put any of your original work into a program where it is vulnerable to being “scraped” by AI. I also do not use AI tools to recap or summarize video meetings. Should you require a recording or transcript of a video meeting for accessibility reasons, that is always possible.
I do not provide editorial work on writing written by, or in combination with, generative AI.
“Paula did an incredible job helping me find my voice, and concisely write what I was trying to say. She gave constructive feedback in a positive manner, and continued to work with me to make a perfect piece.”
“The feedback from Paula is invaluable; whether it be concept discussion/feedback or feedback and editing of my writing, Paula provided thoughtful, nuanced, and high quality guidance. My artistic practice is richer, more professional, and more thoughtful thanks to Paula.”
